Hicks wasn’t going to be able to hold out much longer. No matter how many blows he landed with the pipe, the robot kept coming. And coming. And coming.
And Hicks' arms were getting tired.
He tried to take a step back, but he was met with a bulkhead wall. The robot raised one of its appendages to bludgeon his head in, and Hicks closed his eyes, waiting for the blow to fall.
It never did.
The sound of the robot collapsing to the floor was enough to startle Hicks’ eyes open. He stared numbly at his foe, barely able to believe that it was over. But it had to be. Vazquez must have managed to figure out how to remotely shut the thing down.
Running footsteps caught his attention, and he looked up in time to see Vazquez bound into the hold before she caught him in a tight embrace.
Hicks let himself sag into her for a moment before they started back to the deck and sealed the hold behind them.
